Happenings at Grand Villa of Melbourne

At Grand Villa of Melbourne, residents lead fun and engaged lives with a full calendar of social and recreational activities. From daily exercise classes to guest lectures and local excursions, we offer a wide variety of options to keep our residents mentally, socially, and physically engaged.

An active social calendar can keep seniors from feeling lonely and isolated, and it’s easy to be social at Grand Villa. Daily meals in our restaurant-style dining room are events in themselves, with residents coming together three times a day to enjoy delicious food and relaxed conversation. Our packed calendar makes it easy to stay engaged all day. Some of our most popular activities include yoga classes, Bingo and crafts, and movies on the big screen. We even have weekly visits from our popular pet therapy animals.

New Hope Against Dementia and Alzheimer’s

Countless seniors suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease every day. They are the more heart-wrenching diseases to watch an aging loved one suffer from. Now, University College of London may have discovered a new way to detect the disease 15 years before there are any effects.

According to Express, there has been development in a new scanning process that can detect, locate, and measure the proteins that cause Alzheimer’s. These proteins appear years before the actual disease has an impact.

New treatments are being developed on how to handle the proteins. There are new trials for experimental drugs and blood tests are being developed. These new scans can prove to be extremely valuable while stepping toward a cure.
